Day 3 - Residency (Stratford Grove)

A rainy day spent quietely exploring the properties of expanding polyfilla in the attic space. It was good to separate these works from the wood and other materials downstairs in the project space and to spend time with them in a more neutral and less cluttered space.

This is a completely new line of work for me which is really exciting.

No new materials collected from the street today although I did go for a morning walk to the shops to buy a few things.

Also, there seems to be something interesting on pretty much every night here and last night Carole and I went to a student show ('Disappear here') at a pop up space in the ThinkTank gallery space in Hoults yard http://houltsyard.wordpress.com/ followed by fish and chips on the way home!

Day 2 - Residency (Stratford Grove) - work in progress

A day of experimentation.

The new objects and pieces of wood I found today are propped against the wall.

I managed to peel off the lace from the expanding foam from yesterday which has taken on the form of the folds of the material and has imprinted on it in places the pattern. I think I could explore this more so will continue with this again tomorrow. I'm not sure I like the colour though and if I change it in some way this may detract from its rawness.

After a slight disaster of having bought the wrong type of concrete mix I eventually gave it a go anyway and have filled a bucket with concrete and embedded one of the wooden fence posts in it - to form a base which I can work out from to make some kind of framework.

Fascinating to see variations and modifications of essentially the same architecture and to come across random finds on the street.

Some materials collected from the street along with a few of my old favourites from the DIY store and work begins.....

The plan for tomorrow is to play with concrete and expanding polyfilla - to create a weighty base.

I intend to document each day of the residency - both the walks I take around the area to find materials and the work in progress when I return to the project space.
